Sammi’s Biography

Pianist Sammi Chen is a Sony artist whose international performances and musicianship have distinguished her among a rising generation of young musicians. She has performed as a soloist at leading venues across Europe, North America and Asia. A prizewinner at the International Carl Maria von Weber Competition and a Steinway & Sons Young Artist, she is currently pursuing her studies with Professor Bruce Brubaker at the New England Conservatory in Boston, following studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.

Sammi began her musical education at the Primary School attached to the Central Conservatory of Music before continuing at its prestigious Middle School. Alongside her studies in Beijing, she attended The Purcell School for Young Musicians, one of the United Kingdom’s foremost specialist schools for exceptionally gifted musicians. During these years, Sammi trained within both the Chinese and British conservatoire traditions, becoming one of the few pianists to receive parallel training in both. During her time at Purcell, she was awarded the School's highest scholarship—the first in its nearly eighty-year history to be named after an individual student.

In 2022, Sammi entered the Royal Academy of Music, where she was selected for the Steinway & Sons Young Artist Programme. She was a regular performer in the Academy's principal piano festival concert series, and completed her undergraduate studies with distinction, graduating in just two years with outstanding academic and artistic achievement before continuing her studies at the New England Conservatory. As a soloist, Sammi has performed at many distinguished venues, including Walt Disney Concert Hall, Duke's Hall, the Großer Saal of the Mozarteum, Beijing Concert Hall, the Purcell Room, and has also appeared at the Bergen International Festival, among other leading venues and festivals worldwide.

Sammi has received numerous international awards, including Second Prize and the Special Prize for the Best Performance of a Work by Carl Maria von Weber at the International Carl Maria von Weber Competition, and First Prize at The Purcell School Concerto Competition. She has also received prizes at several other international competitions, including the Brest International Piano Competition. Following her success at the Weber Competition, she was also invited to present a recital at the Carl Maria von Weber Museum.
